Who Should Join This 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

This course is not just for people who want to teach yoga full-time. It is for anyone who wants real, well-planned yoga study with depth and a firm routine. Here are the kinds of students we most often welcome.

Complete Beginners

You have done some yoga in studios or at home, but never on a formal course. You want a firm base in asana, philosophy, breathing and meditation, built from the ground up. The 200-hour course takes you from curious student to confident, well-informed yogi. You don’t need any teaching background.

Experienced Practitioners Seeking Depth

You have done yoga for years, but you feel stuck. You know the poses well. Now you want to learn the why: the philosophy, the anatomy, the breath and the ethics. The training closes the gap between casual practice and real insight. It changes how you do yoga, on the mat and off it.

Aspiring Yoga Teachers

You want to teach yoga as a job, and you need the RYT 200 credential that is known worldwide. The course gives you the certificate, the teaching skills, the practice hours and the confidence to lead safe, useful classes. You can teach in studios, retreats, offices or online, anywhere in the world.

Fitness Professionals & Wellness Workers

This suits personal trainers, physiotherapists, Pilates teachers and wellness coaches who want to add yoga to their skill set. Knowing alignment, breathwork and yoga philosophy gives you more tools for your clients. It also sets your work apart in a busy wellness market.

People in Career Transition

You are leaving a corporate job, taking a sabbatical, or just ready for a real change. Many of our students are working people in their 30s and 40s. They use the 200-hour course as a reset: a month of discipline, self-study and purpose. Some go on to teach. Others go back to work with a clearer mind and a daily practice that keeps them going.

International Students & Solo Travellers

You are coming to India just for real, classic yoga. You want more than a retreat. You want proper study in the birthplace of yoga, with teachers who live the tradition. Our students from abroad (from 40+ countries) find community, safety and a life-changing month in Rishikesh. It goes far beyond a holiday.

200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Curriculum & Subjects

The 200-hour course is split into clear modules that cover every side of yoga study. Here is just what you will study, practise and master in your 25 days of training.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (50+ hours)

This is the main style of the course. You will learn the classic Ashtanga Primary Series. That means the correct order, drishti (gazing points), bandhas (energy locks) and the vinyasa count. Daily morning practice builds strength, flexibility and discipline. By week three, you can lead the full primary series on your own.

  • Sun Salutations A & B, with breath and movement in time.
  • Standing, seated and finishing poses of the Primary Series.
  • Ways to adapt poses for each body type.
  • Mysore-style self-practice.

Hatha Yoga & Vinyasa Flow (40+ hours)

Afternoon sessions focus on Hatha and Vinyasa Flow. They round out the morning Ashtanga practice. You will learn to hold poses with care (Hatha) and link them with the breath in fresh ways (Vinyasa). With both styles, you can teach more than one kind of class after you graduate.

  • Classic Hatha poses with proper alignment and hold times.
  • How to build Vinyasa sequences — peak pose, wave and mandala flows.
  • Creative class plans and smooth transitions.
  • Use of props (blocks, straps, bolsters) so every body can take part.

Pranayama & Breathwork (20+ hours)

Pranayama is taught as a subject in its own right, not an afterthought. You will learn classical breathing, from basic awareness to advanced breath holds. You will also see how breath control affects your nerves, your energy and your mind.

  • Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril), Kapalabhati, Bhastrika, Ujjayi.
  • Kumbhaka (breath holds) and bandha work.
  • Who should avoid which practice, and how to teach breathwork safely.
  • Pranayama sequences for classes and your own practice.

Yoga Philosophy & Ethics (20+ hours)

Philosophy sessions root your physical practice in 5,000 years of yogic wisdom. You will study the texts every serious yoga teacher should know. Then you link their old ideas to modern life and teaching.

  • Patanjali's Yoga Sutras — the eight limbs and how to use them.
  • A first look at the Bhagavad Gita and Samkhya philosophy.
  • Yamas, Niyamas and the ethical duties of a yoga teacher.
  • Karma, Dharma and the yogic view of life.

Meditation & Mantra (15+ hours)

Daily meditation is part of the schedule from day one. You will learn several methods. That way you can find what works for you, and guide students through many kinds of meditation.

  • Guided visualisation, body scan, and breath-focused meditation.
  • Trataka (candle gazing) and Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep)
  • Mantra chanting — Om, Gayatri, and classic opening and closing mantras.
  • Building a meditation habit you can keep for life.

Anatomy & Physiology (20+ hours)

Functional anatomy is taught just for yoga, not as general textbook anatomy. You will learn how the body moves in each pose and where injuries happen. You also learn how to teach all kinds of people safely.

  • Muscles and bones as they apply to yoga poses.
  • How joints move, range of motion and common limits.
  • How to prevent injury, and when to avoid key asanas.
  • Safe changes for pregnancy, back pain, knee issues and seniors.

Teaching Methodology (25+ hours)

This is where you move from student to teacher. You will learn to plan, build, cue and teach a full yoga class. Then you practise teaching your classmates, with live feedback from senior teachers.

  • Class sequencing — warm-up, peak, cool-down, savasana.
  • Verbal cues, voice and how to demonstrate.
  • Hands-on adjustments — when, how, and ethics of touch.
  • Practice teaching with feedback from peers and teachers.
  • Running mixed-level classes and building trust with students.

Shatkarma & Yogic Cleansing

Classic yogic cleansing methods are taught and practised with a teacher watching. These cleansing practices ready the body and mind for deeper pranayama and meditation work.

  • Jala Neti (nasal cleansing) and Sutra Neti.
  • Kapalabhati and Agnisara Kriya.
  • Trataka (concentrated gazing)
  • The role of Shatkarma in classic yoga practice.

Career Paths After Your 200-Hour Certification

The RYT 200 credential opens doors across the global wellness world. Here are the most common career paths our graduates take. Many start within weeks of finishing the course.

Studio Yoga Teacher

Teach group classes at yoga studios, fitness centres and gyms. With RYT 200, you meet the basic standard most studios worldwide ask for. Many graduates begin with 2–3 classes per week. They build to a full schedule within months. Average earnings range from $30–$80 per class, based on where you teach and your experience.

Private Yoga Instructor

Offer one-on-one or small group sessions shaped to each person’s needs. Think prenatal, injury recovery, stress relief for busy executives, or mobility for seniors. Private classes earn top rates ($60–$150 per session). They also let you build deep, long-term bonds with clients.

Retreat Leader & Workshop Facilitator

Plan and lead yoga retreats in places like Bali, Portugal, Costa Rica, or right here in Rishikesh. Retreats mix your teaching skills with travel and building a community. Many graduates co-lead their first retreat within a year of getting certified. They earn $2,000–$5,000 per retreat.

Online Yoga Teacher

Build an online yoga business on sites like YouTube, Instagram or your own website. Create on-demand classes, membership plans or live-streamed sessions. The online yoga market has grown a lot since 2020. RYT-certified teachers with real training are in high demand.

Corporate Wellness Instructor

Run yoga and mindfulness classes for companies as part of their staff wellness plans. Corporate yoga is one of the fastest-growing areas. Firms like Google, Amazon and Deloitte offer regular sessions. Contracts often pay $75–$200 per session.

Continue to 300-Hour & RYT 500

Many graduates come back for the 300-hour advanced training. It earns them the RYT 500 title, the highest Yoga Alliance teaching credential. With it, you can lead teacher trainings yourself, focus on yoga therapy and charge higher rates. Our 300-hour course starts on the 1st of every month.

Student community, testimonials, and group moments from the 200 hour yoga teacher training at Rishikesh Yog Nirvana, Rishikesh

How to Reach Our Yoga School in Rishikesh

Rishikesh Yog Nirvana is in Tapovan, a quiet area on the hillside above the Ganges in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. Serious yoga students prefer Tapovan. It is quieter than Laxman Jhula, ringed by Himalayan forest and home to many of Rishikesh’s best yoga schools.

By Air — Dehradun Airport

Fly to Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport (DED), 35 km from Tapovan. It is about 45 minutes by taxi. Direct flights link Dehradun to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata. Or fly into Delhi (DEL) and drive 5–6 hours through the Himalayan foothills. You can also take an overnight bus to Haridwar or Rishikesh. The school arranges free airport pickup from Dehradun on batch start day if you book ahead.

By Train — Haridwar Junction

Haridwar Junction (HW) is the nearest major train station, 25 km south of Rishikesh. Direct trains link Haridwar to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Varanasi. From Haridwar, shared taxis and local buses reach Tapovan in 40–50 minutes. The new Rishikesh station (RKSH) is closer but has fewer trains. For most travellers, Haridwar is still the easier choice.

Visa for International Students

People from most countries can enter India on a Tourist e-Visa that covers yoga study. Apply on the Indian government’s e-Visa site at least 4 weeks before your batch starts. Choose "Recreation/Yoga" as the purpose of your visit. The school gives you an admission letter upon booking to support your application. For the 25-day course, a standard 30-day e-Visa is enough. Citizens of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and EU countries can all get an e-Visa.

About Tapovan, Rishikesh

Tapovan is a quiet area uphill from the Ganges, about 3 km north of the famous Laxman Jhula bridge. It is calmer than the busy tourist parts of Rishikesh, which makes it ideal for yoga study. The area has organic cafes, Ayurvedic shops and several well-known yoga schools. Life here means morning walks by the Ganga and evening Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat. Weekends bring trips to Himalayan waterfalls and temples. Mountain air, the river and a yoga community make Tapovan the truest base for a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh.

The fee covers 25 days of training and a shared ashram room. It also includes three vegetarian meals a day, all course materials and manuals, weekend trips, Wi-Fi and filtered drinking water. You also get a Yoga Alliance-aligned certificate when you complete the course. You can upgrade to a private room for an extra cost.

The course runs for 25 days, from the 1st to the 25th of every month. Classes run six days a week with one rest day. The schedule has early morning asana practice, pranayama, meditation, philosophy talks, anatomy sessions and teaching skills workshops.

When you complete the course, you receive a certificate from Rishikesh Yog Nirvana, a Registered Yoga School (RYS 200) with Yoga Alliance USA. You can then register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT 200 (Registered Yoga Teacher). They charge their own fee ($50), and the registration lets you teach around the world.

The 200 hour course is the base certificate for anyone starting to teach yoga. It covers all core subjects from scratch. The 300 hour course is an advanced course for certified 200-hour graduates. It deepens your practice, sharpens your teaching and leads to the RYT 500 title. You must complete 200 hours before you join the 300 hours.

Shared rooms are included in the base fee. Each room is clean, comfortable and set up for rest and recovery. Private rooms with attached bathrooms cost extra as an upgrade. All rooms are on the ashram campus, so you stay deep in the yogic setting for the whole training.

New batches begin on the 1st of every month, year-round. Batches are kept small on purpose (12–15 students), so each student gets close attention from teachers. Book at least 4–6 weeks ahead, as seats fill fast. This matters most from October to March, the peak season in Rishikesh.

Yes. The 200 hour certificate is the global standard for teaching yoga as a career. Once you register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT 200, you can teach in studios, wellness centres, retreats, gyms and offices anywhere in the world. Many of our graduates begin teaching within weeks of finishing the course.

The main style is Ashtanga Vinyasa. You also study Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, pranayama (breathing), meditation, yoga philosophy (Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita), anatomy and teaching skills. Learning many styles gives graduates range and depth in their teaching.

People from most countries can enter India on a Tourist e-Visa that covers yoga study. Apply online on the Indian government e-Visa site at least 4 weeks before your batch starts. Choose "Recreation/Yoga" as the purpose of your visit. The school provides an admission letter upon booking to support your application. For the 25-day course, a standard tourist visa is enough.
