What is Aerial Yoga?

Aerial Yoga — also called flying yoga or anti-gravity yoga — is a modern extension of traditional yoga that uses a suspended silk hammock to support and enhance each movement. It combines the strength of Hatha Yoga, the flow of Vinyasa Yoga, and the stillness of Yin Yoga to create a balanced, transformative practice that offers benefits traditional mat-based yoga cannot — including spinal decompression, joint traction, and full-body inversions without neck compression.

Regular practice of flying yoga supports physical well-being, mental clarity, and spiritual balance. The hammock acts as both a support tool for beginners and a challenge tool for advanced practitioners, making aerial yoga one of the most versatile and accessible forms of modern yoga education.

Key Benefits of Aerial Yoga

  • Improves Flexibility and Strength — The hammock allows deeper stretching and improved alignment in traditional yoga poses, helping to build core strength and balance.
  • Relieves Back and Joint Pressure — The gentle support of the hammock reduces stress on the joints and spine, making it a safe and low-impact workout for all fitness levels.
  • Increases Energy and Circulation — Inversions in anti-gravity yoga help improve blood flow, energize the body, and enhance mental clarity.
  • Enhances Body Awareness — Through guided movements and alignment practice, aerial yoga develops coordination, awareness of the human body, and control of breath and posture.
  • Promotes Relaxation and Stress Relief — The feeling of weightlessness promotes deep relaxation, releasing stored tension and encouraging positive energy and calmness.
  • Encourages Self-Discovery — Aerial practice helps you explore new limits, overcome fear, and connect with your inner self, supporting a journey toward a peaceful and happy life.
  • Complements Other Yoga Styles — Aerial Yoga integrates easily with Hatha, Vinyasa, and Yin Yoga, enriching your overall yoga journey and expanding your teaching skills.

Aerial yoga teaching practice and supervised silk hammock sessions at Rishikesh Yog Nirvana in Tapovan

From Student to Confident Aerial Yoga Teacher in 7 Days

This aerial yoga certification course in Rishikesh offers not just the techniques to teach, but the wisdom to inspire. Our asana champion instructors break down every silk hammock transition into teachable components — so you understand not just how to perform a pose, but how to communicate it clearly to students of different levels.

By day three, you begin supervised teaching practice with your batchmates. By day five, you are leading full 30-minute sequences with instructor feedback. By graduation on day seven, you have the confidence, vocabulary, and safety awareness to walk into any studio and lead an aerial yoga class from scratch.

Graduates receive: 50-hour Yoga Alliance YACEP certificate, a complete aerial yoga class sequencing manual, equipment setup guide, and lifetime access to our alumni WhatsApp group for ongoing support and teaching tips.

Who Can Join the Aerial Yoga Certification Course?

This 50-hour aerial yoga teacher training is open to practitioners at every level — no previous anti-gravity yoga or silk hammock experience required. What makes training at Rishikesh Yog Nirvana different is our instructors: our aerial yoga faculty includes competitive asana champions and national-level yoga athletes who bring precision, safety awareness, and technical mastery that recreational-only teachers cannot match. You learn inversions, wraps, and transitions from practitioners who have performed them under competition-level pressure.

This Aerial Yoga TTC is Designed For:

  • RYT 200/500 Certified Yoga Teachers wanting to add aerial yoga as a specialty skill and earn 50 Yoga Alliance continuing education hours (YACEP). Our silk hammock methodology integrates directly with your existing Hatha and Vinyasa teaching.
  • Pilates, Dance & Movement Professionals looking to expand into anti-gravity yoga. Your existing body awareness accelerates learning — our instructors adapt the curriculum to leverage your background in controlled movement and core stability.
  • Physiotherapists & Rehabilitation Specialists exploring aerial yoga's therapeutic applications — spinal decompression, joint traction, and proprioceptive training using the hammock as a support tool, not just a prop.
  • Complete Beginners with Basic Fitness who are drawn to the creativity and freedom of suspended practice. No acrobatic background needed — we build progressively from foundational wraps to supported inversions over 7 structured days.
  • Studio Owners who want to add aerial yoga classes to their offering. You learn not just the practice but the business side — equipment sourcing, safety protocols, class size management, and how to market aerial yoga effectively.

The programme is intentionally small-batch (maximum 12 students) to ensure every participant gets hands-on guidance during inversions and complex wraps. Our Tapovan ashram in Rishikesh provides a focused, distraction-free environment with Himalayan views — ideal for building confidence in a practice that requires trust and presence.

Morning meditation and pranayama session overlooking the Himalayas at Rishikesh Yog Nirvana in Tapovan

A Typical Day in the Aerial Yoga Certification Course

The training maintains a holistic balance between physical silk hammock practice, yoga philosophy, anatomy workshops, and spiritual development. Every session is designed to help you progress safely and mindfully — building from supported wraps and basic inversions in the first two days to full aerial flow sequences and teaching practicum by day seven.

Mornings begin with pranayama and meditation as the Himalayan sun rises over the Ganga below our Tapovan studio. The first aerial session focuses on technique and alignment — learning wraps, mounts, and transitions with instructor spotting. After breakfast, anatomy workshops explain how the silk hammock supports spinal decompression, joint traction, and proprioceptive development. Afternoon sessions shift to creative sequencing, partner work, and supervised teaching practice. Evenings close with Yin or restorative aerial poses followed by sound healing — leaving your body deeply released and your mind clear for the next day.

Safety Protocols & Professional Equipment

Safety is non-negotiable in aerial yoga — especially during inversions and complex wraps. At Rishikesh Yog Nirvana, every aspect of the silk hammock setup follows international safety standards.

  • Professional-grade silk hammocks — TÜV-certified fabric rated to 300 kg (660 lbs), replaced annually and inspected before every session
  • Steel ceiling rigging — industrial-strength mounting points bolted into reinforced concrete beams, not screwed into drywall
  • Crash mats below every hammock — 8 cm thick foam mats positioned under each station for the full 7-day training
  • Maximum 12 students per batch — ensures every participant has a dedicated hammock station and one-on-one instructor access during inversions
  • Instructor spotting for all inversions — no student attempts a full inversion without physical guidance until the instructor confirms readiness

Students with pre-existing conditions (high blood pressure, glaucoma, pregnancy, recent surgery) should consult their doctor before enrolling. Our instructors adapt the practice for individual limitations.

Your 50-Hour Aerial Yoga Certification — What It Means

On successful completion of the 7-day programme, you receive a 50-hour aerial yoga certification from Rishikesh Yog Nirvana, a Yoga Alliance YACEP registered provider. This credential is recognised globally and serves two purposes:

For Existing RYT Holders

The 50 hours count directly toward your Yoga Alliance continuing education requirements. Log them on your YA profile as YACEP hours. This keeps your RYT-200 or RYT-500 registration active and adds aerial yoga as a verified specialty on your teaching profile.

For Non-RYT Practitioners

The certificate serves as a standalone aerial yoga teaching credential. Studios and fitness centres hiring aerial yoga instructors recognise 50-hour specialty certifications. Many graduates use this as their entry point into yoga teaching before pursuing a full 200-hour yoga teacher training.

Frequently Asked Questions About Aerial Yoga TTC

Fill out the registration form on our website or contact our team directly via WhatsApp or email. After registration, you receive course fee confirmation, upcoming batch dates, accommodation options at our Tapovan ashram, and pre-arrival guidance including visa and travel tips.

Our professional-grade silk hammocks safely support up to 300 kg (660 lbs). The hammocks are TÜV-certified, rigged from steel ceiling mounts, and inspected before every session. There is no practical weight restriction for participants — the silk fabric distributes body weight evenly, making aerial yoga accessible to all body types.

The 50-hour aerial yoga certification course runs for 7 days. It is registered as a Yoga Alliance YACEP (Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider) programme. On completion, you receive a certificate that counts toward your continuing education hours if you are already RYT-certified, or serves as a standalone aerial yoga teaching credential.

No prior aerial yoga, anti-gravity yoga, or silk hammock experience is required. The course builds progressively from foundational wraps and supported poses to inversions and flow sequences. Basic physical fitness and comfort with being upside down are helpful but not mandatory — we build confidence gradually over 7 days.

Bring fitted, full-coverage clothing (leggings and long-sleeve tops prevent fabric burns from the silk hammock). Avoid zippers, buttons, and jewellery during practice. Personal essentials, a water bottle, and a notebook for teaching methodology notes. The ashram provides yoga mats, silk hammocks, and all training equipment.

Batches run year-round, starting on the 1st of every month. The most popular months are October through March (pleasant Himalayan weather, 15–25°C). April–June is warm but manageable. July–September is monsoon season — still operational, with fewer students and a lush green Tapovan landscape. All aerial practice happens indoors, so weather does not affect training.

Yes. The certificate is issued by Rishikesh Yog Nirvana, a Yoga Alliance USA Registered Yoga School. The 50 YACEP hours are recognised globally by studios, gyms, and wellness centres. If you are already RYT-200 or RYT-500, these hours count directly toward your Yoga Alliance continuing education requirements.

The curriculum covers 60+ aerial yoga postures across categories: supported standing poses, seated hammock poses, hip openers, backbends, inversions (full and partial), core wraps, and restorative aerial sequences. You also learn how to sequence these into complete 60-minute and 90-minute aerial yoga classes for different student levels.

All meals at the ashram are vegetarian and sattvic (yogic diet). Three freshly prepared meals are served daily — breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free requirements can be accommodated with advance notice. The diet is designed to keep energy levels high for aerial practice without feeling heavy.

A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your seat. The remaining balance is due before the course start date. If you cannot attend your scheduled batch due to genuine emergency, you may request a transfer to a future batch (subject to availability). Full details are provided in the registration confirmation email. Contact our team for specific questions about your situation.
