We serve hygienic and nutritious vegetarian food at the ashram so that our students can remain dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in Yoga. The foods we serve have certain categories depending on the sun’s position. We serve Saptprakarti and Tridosha diet, offshoots of Sattvic diet.

As you make progress in your Yoga training, you start focusing on supplementing your body with nutrients. You take into consideration nutrition’s energetic aspect while deciding on your diet.

Coming to the question of whether meat should be included in the diet, it has been observed that after enough hours of practice, many yogis feel that it’s no anymore necessary to consume non-vegetarian food.

Some foods can wreak havoc on your body and mind. Therefore, we prescribe food that is more subtle, and therefore, suitable for your body and mind. Ayurveda, Yoga’s sister science encourages the consumption of the Sattvic diet. “Sattva” is an embodiment of a high degree of self-control and the purity of spiritual well-being. It’s evident in better intelligence, happiness, virtue, and joy. Sattvic food ensures purity of the soul-making you compassionate and kind.

Sattvic food is completely vegetarian and hence, no harm is caused to animals. The food is cultivated naturally and it includes no harmful preservatives, artificial flavors, or addictive substances.

The contents of Sattvic food are as follows-

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables are grown organically
  • Lentils
  • Spices like ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, basil, and coriander
  • Beans
  • Dairy foods like milk and ghee (clarified butter)
  • Plant-based oils
  • Mildly sweet foods with unrefined and natural sugars

The Bhagavad Gita says that Sattvic food is light and therefore, easy to digest. Since it’s pure, it encourages positivity and mental satisfaction. It helps you stay alert, refreshed, and at peace with yourself.
